Going down GA ave towards Glenmont, one bus stops (and stops rush hour traffic) to pick up a kid, then proceeds about three bus lengths and turns right into a side street-where it stops again (without stopping traffic). We started doing this at age five.Īround here, buses seem to stop in front of every kid's house. We had to walk down to the bottom to catch the bus, and it dropped us off at the bottom and we hiked back up in the afternoon. I realize I'm old and everything, but we lived at the top of a 500’ long dead end hill. Having said that, I learned a valuable lesson and carefully look out for these school buses from now on. So I ended up not going to court or paying a fine. The officer tasked with reviewing my footage decided against taking me to court over it, saying the video collected was “too short” and asked that I just avoid doing that in the future now that I am more familiar with the law. After submitting my intent to appeal via mail, I received a phone call to follow up. UPDATE: I ended up challenging the ticket. I just don’t see how I could have had an opportunity to react to the stop signals. Would it be fair to say this is similar to driving through an intersection and then the light changes from green to yellow as you pass through it? The law (as I interpret it) doesn’t appear to apply to buses that are idle which do not have the stop signs displayed. The bus driver activated them when I was in the midst of driving past the bus. While I did pass the school bus, the stop signs/lights were not yet deployed. I am not questioning the law itself, just its application in my case. In MD, you will receive a fine of $250 if the onboard school bus camera catches you passing a stopped school bus while it has its flashing stop signs/lights displayed.
